The "Dialogue Across Mountains and Seas" Qingdao-Daegu International Sister City Promotion Forum was successfully held at Daegu University.
Alongside the event, a photography exhibition titled "Dialogue Across Mountains and Seas" showcased the cultural and scenic highlights of both cities. Additionally, the "Daegu·Qingdao Cultural Lounge" was inaugurated at the university to further enhance cultural exchanges between the two sister cities.
Qingdao and Daegu have carried out vibrant exchanges and cooperation in economic, trade, and cultural fields since establishing sister-city ties in 1993. The two cities have regularly sent delegations to each other's festivals, including the Daegu Citizen's Festival and Qingdao International Beer Festival. They have established a youth exchange mechanism, organizing mutual visits of student delegations for many consecutive years. Additionally, the cities have conducted extensive sports exchanges in Go (Baduk), athletics, sailing, and other areas.
The promotion forum was warmly welcomed and strongly supported by Daegu University in South Korea. Attendees included Daegu University President Park Soon-jin, Director of International Affairs Kang Soo-tae, Head of International Exchange Department Lee Seung-hee, and Chief of International Exchange Division Kong Dae-seok, along with guests and faculty members from the Daegu Chinese Overseas Association, Daegu University, Yeungnam University, Keimyung University, Kyungpook National University, Catholic University of Daegu, and Daegu Chinese Culture & Traditional Arts Academy. A total of over 80 people participated in the forum.
At the promotion forum, President Park Soon-jin of Daegu University mentioned the university's past exchanges with Qingdao in his speech, emphasizing Daegu University's strong focus on multi-faceted cooperation with Chinese partners in areas including international student education, sister-university partnerships, and cultural exchanges between Korea and China. He stated that Qingdao is a beautiful coastal city and one of the most popular Chinese tourist destinations among Koreans, noting that Tsingtao Beer enjoys high recognition and great popularity in South Korea.
Following the promotion forum, participating guests, faculty, and students visited the "A Dialogue Across Mountains and Seas" Qingdao-Daegu International Sister Cities Photography Exhibition, which featured six sections - City Profile, History & Culture, Innovation & Vitality, Quality Living, Tourism & Events, and Key Development Zones - showcasing Qingdao's recent development achievements and dynamic growth through over 30 exquisite photographs that highlighted the unique charm of this modern international metropolis.
It is worth mentioning that some of the photographic works exhibited in this photography exhibition were contributed by South Korean photojournalists who participated in the "Hi, Shandong—Opportunities in China, Qingdao Excellence" overseas media tour in Qingdao on May 6. During the event, they captured their experiences in Qingdao through their lenses. From "inviting in" to "going global," these photographic works by South Korean journalists have deepened mutual understanding and strengthened the emotional bonds between Qingdao and its sister city, Daegu, through mutual resonance and interaction.
The "Daegu-Qingdao Cultural Lounge" exhibit captivated visiting students and faculty with its exquisite displays—delicate puppets, intricate paper-cuts, vibrant clay tigers, lifelike dough sculptures, shell carvings of remarkable craftsmanship, and Qingdao Beer Festival products. The shared cultural roots between China and Korea resonated strongly, as the visitors eagerly examined the exhibits, took photos, and immersed themselves in Qingdao's distinctive folk artistry.
At the end of the visit, Daegu University participants received cultural gift souvenirs. They expressed how the event deepened their understanding of Qingdao as a modern, international metropolis. Through the photographs, they gained a vivid impression of the city's dynamic charm, while the exquisite traditional crafts on display left them enchanted. Many said they now look forward to visiting Qingdao to explore the city and taste its famous beer.
This promotion forum is part of the "Opportunities in China, Colorful Shandong" Chinese culture overseas program. As the initiative continues, more Shandong cities will go global and showcase their charm worldwide.
‘산과 바다를 넘는 대화’ 칭다오-대구 국제 자매도시 홍보 포럼, 대구서 성황리 개최
‘산과 바다를 넘는 대화’ 칭다오-대구 국제 자매도시 홍보 포럼이 대구대학교에서 성황리에 열렸다. 행사와 함께 열린 사진전 ‘산과 바다를 넘는 대화’에서는 두 도시의 문화와 경관을 담은 작품들이 전시되었으며, 대구대학교 내에 ‘대구·칭다오 문화라운지’도 새롭게 개관돼 자매도시 간 문화 교류 활성화의 장이 마련됐다.
칭다오와 대구는 1993년 자매도시 협정을 체결한 이후 경제, 무역, 문화 등 다양한 분야에서 활발한 교류와 협력을 이어왔다. 대구시민축제와 칭다오국제맥주축제 등 각 도시의 대표 축제에 상호 대표단이 꾸준히 참가해 왔으며 학생 상호 방문을 중심으로 한 청소년 교류도 수년간 지속되고 있다. 바둑, 육상, 요트 등 스포츠 분야에서도 다양한 교류가 이뤄지고 있다.
이번 포럼은 대구대학교의 적극적인 환영과 지원 속에 진행됐다. 행사에는 박순진 대구대학교 총장, 강수태 국제처장, 이승희 국제교류부장, 공대석 국제교류과장을 비롯해 대구화교협회, 대구대학교, 영남대학교, 계명대학교, 경북대학교, 대구가톨릭대학교, 대구중국전통문화예술학원 등 80여 명의 교수진 및 학생, 관계자들이 참석했다.
박순진 대구대학교 총장은 개회사에서 “대구대학교는 중국 대학들과의 국제학생 교육, 자매대학 협력, 한중 문화교류에 깊은 관심을 갖고 다양한 협력을 추진하고 있다”고 밝히며 “칭다오는 아름다운 해변 도시이자 한국인들에게 인기 있는 관광지이며, 칭다오 맥주는 한국에서 높은 인지도를 자랑한다”고 강조했다.
포럼 후 참석자들은 ‘산과 바다를 넘는 대화’ 칭다오-대구 국제 자매도시 사진전을 관람했다. 전시는 도시 개요, 역사문화, 혁신과 활력, 품격 있는 삶, 관광과 이벤트, 주요 개발구 등 6개 섹션으로 구성돼, 총 30여 점의 사진을 통해 칭다오의 발전과 활력을 생생하게 보여줬다.
특히 이번 전시에는 지난 5월 6일 칭다오에서 열린 ‘하이 산둥—중국의 기회, 칭다오의 우수성’ 해외 언론투어에 참여한 한국 언론인들이 촬영한 사진들도 함께 전시돼 눈길을 끌었다. 한국 사진기자들이 렌즈에 담은 칭다오의 모습은 자매도시 간 정서적 교감을 더욱 깊게 하고 상호 이해를 증진시키는 계기가 됐다.
또한, 새롭게 개관한 ‘대구-칭다오 문화라운지’ 전시도 많은 관심을 받았다. 정교한 인형극 인형, 화려한 종이 공예, 생동감 넘치는 점토 호랑이, 리얼한 밀가루 조각, 섬세한 조개 조각, 칭다오 맥주축제 관련 기념품 등 다양한 전통 공예품들이 전시되어 학생들과 교수들의 눈길을 사로잡았다. 전시를 관람한 이들은 사진을 찍고 공예품을 가까이서 살펴보며 칭다오의 전통 문화에 깊은 관심을 보였다는 것이 관계자의 설명이다.
행사 말미에는 대구대학교 관계자들에게 문화 기념품이 증정됐다. 이번 홍보 포럼은 중국 문화의 세계화를 위한 ‘중국의 기회, 다채로운 산둥’ 프로그램의 일환으로 진행됐다. 해당 프로그램을 통해 앞으로도 더 많은 산둥 지역 도시들이 해외로 나아가 전 세계에 그 매력을 널리 알릴 예정이라고 주최 측은 밝혔다.
